Favorite Books Set In Winter-Time

There are several books that I love that are set in winter time. The books in my list are all over the place. Some are YA contemporary, some are paranormal, but overall I suggest you read them all because they are the perfect books to read on a cold winter day.

  1. Let It Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle, Maureen Johnson – Three authors. Three Stories. One Town.
  2. Frostbite (VA #2) by Richelle Mead – This is the second book in the vampire academy series and let me just tell you, ski resort, vampires, danger, and love.
  3. The Fiery Heart (BL #4) by Richelle Mead – This is the fourth book in the Bloodlines series which is the spinoff series of VA. Even a cold California winter can get hot real fast. 😉
  4. Suite Dreams by Rachel Hawthorne – This is the perfect, most fluffiest book for the winter time. If this book were a drink, it would be a hot chocolate with marshmallows.

What are some of your favorite winter time books?

Sunday Updates

Why We Are Here

Hello everyone, Veronica here. Today’s post will be one of updates, and life rambles.

The end of September and most of October has been hard for both Anjie and I. It has been difficult to blog and we apologize for the inactivity of it all.

The Good Stuff

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with my new lovely friend Kayla (who is The Thousand Lives) and she let me borrow some books which I am very excited to read!

Also, you guys I finally have a FULL TIME JOB. Yes!! I am super excited! I start at the end of this month so it will be great! I’m also moving to a new place at the end of this month so many new life changes are happening… All at once! I’m so happy that it is all coming together. I can feel peace again. PTL!

Also, before I knew I was moving and that I got the job, I had signed up for NANOWRIMO so… November is going to be crazy!

What To Expect

Even though all of this good craziness is happening, I will be reading a lot this coming week in preparation for my future hectic schedule. The rest of October you’re going to see a lot of activity on this blog which may lead you to think I am not sleeping. (I assure you, I will be. ;] )

I will post likely queue some posts for the future as well.

That is all I have for this update and I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

  2. What If… Everyone Knew Your Name by Liz Ruckdeschel & Sara James (I had fun reading this)

A to Z Bookish Survey

AtoZsurvey-1017x1024I was looking through my reader dashboard on wordpress and I saw that Perpetual Page Turner (Jamie) had created this book survey. I saw this and I was like… why not? This looks like fun!

Author you’ve read most books from:

Richelle Mead. 10 books.

Best Sequel Ever:

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead

Currently Reading:

Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover by Ally Carter

Drink of Choice While Reading:

Water/Coffee/Tea

E-reader or Physical Book?

Both. I own a Nook HD+ and I love it! I also love physical books, so really it depends on my mood.

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

This is a hard one because I really don’t know, but if I had to think really hard I would say William Herondale. My weakness in high school was dark hair, light skin, tall guys. I think they might still be my weakness.

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. After reading City of Bones, I had vowed to stay away from anything Cassandra Clare, but I decided to see if this trilogy was different and oh boy was it. I loved it.

Hidden Gem Book:

The Cupcake Queen by Heather Hepler

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot is what really got me into reading. I was a 7th grader at the time, and I fell in love with the series.

Just Finished:

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter (I’m doing the Gallagher Girls Read-a-Thon, so there is a lot of Ally Carter in this survey.)

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I won’t read New Adult Novels and Bi/Gay romance novels.

Longest Book You’ve Read:

The Beginning: Born At Midnight and Awake at Dawn by C.C. Hunter. 819 pages. 🙂

Major Hangover Because Of:

Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris (Such a good book, but aw man did it give me a hangover.)

Number of Bookcases You Own:

I guess I could say two, but I don’t really have “real” bookshelfs.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Preferred Place To Read:

The living room. The couch is so comfy.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

“Outside, the ocean was crashing, waves hitting sand, then pulling back to sea. I thought of everything being washed away, again and again. We make such messes in this life, both accidentally and on purpose. But wiping the surface clean doesn’t really make anything neater. It just masks what is below. It’s only when you really dig down deep, go underground, that you can see who you really are.”

What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

Reading Regret:

The Duff by Keplinger

Series You Started And Need To Finish(all books are out in series):

The Shadow Falls Series. (I’m still halfway through the 4th book. I can’t seem to pick it back up. I don’t want the series to end.)

Three Of You All-Time Favorite Books:

What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

Richelle Mead. I met her back in May during her Gameboard of the gods Book Tour. I was nice and polite, even though internally I was thinking while I was staring at her “Where do you come up with all these wonderful stories… Can I look inside your brain so that I can know what happens with Bloodlines and GofG?!”

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

THE FIERY HEART by Richelle Mead

Worst Bookish Habit:

Leaving books open when I have to do something hence damaging the spine. Oops.

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

Sophomore Switch by Abby McDonald

Your latest book purchase:

I bought four books on gohastings.com, a website that sells used books among other things. The four books I bought were Clockwork Angel, Ruby Red, Fixing Delilah, & Graceling. Oh and I bought Of Poseidon from the Barnes and Nobles Nook Store.

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):

The last book that made me lose sleep was Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry. I stayed up until 3am. 😀

Discussion: Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy (GG #2) by Ally Carter

For the rest of the Gallagher Girls Read-A-Thon I will be doing a discussion of each book instead of a book review. These discussions will contain spoilers so if you haven’t read the book and don’t want to be spoiled, please stop reading. 🙂

My Thoughts:

I just finished reading Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy and…. OooohhhWeeeeee… I am so excited! Zach finally arrived, and it broke my heart every time Cammie saw Josh. I do feel bad for the both of them, but Thank you Ally Carter for not making a love triangle. THANK YOU!

I liked I’d Tell You I Love You, But Them I’d Have to Kill You, but I forgot how good the series was. This book gave me a glimpse as to why this is one of my favorite series of all time.

I loved that Zach was able to make Cammie a better spy by challenging her. And I loved how clueless Cammie was about Zach’s feelings towards her. Oh Cammie. Macey can only do so much, you need to start learning this boy stuff too.

Can I say that I just LOVE Macey. I love the original trio too, but the quartet kicks butt more! 😀

I’ll end this post with Cammie’s last words…

“The whole summer lay ahead of us-time to rest, time to wait. And when the future comes-no matter what comes with it-I’ll be smarter. I’ll be stronger. I’ll be ready.”

Week 2 of GG Readathon

gallagher-girls-readathon

Last week we read I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You.

idtellyouilove

I had forgotten so many things, and how the whole Josh thing really went down. I was so enamored by Josh when I was 16, but now I just find him cute. I can’t wait until Zack comes into the picture. I can’t wait for the Blackthorn Boys. *giggles*

This week we are reading:

I am really glad I decided to join this Readathon. I will be posting a short book review of the first book soon.

Have a lovely Monday!

The Start Line: The Gallagher Girls Series Read-A-Thon Begins Today!

gallagher-girls-readathon

The Read-A-Thon begins today! Woo!

The first book we will be reading is I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You. At the end of each time period, I will be posting a review of the book. I will be doing that for all five books in the Gallagher Girls Series.

The first book is only 284 pages which basically means, I may be done in two days if I don’t pace myself. In order to pace myself I will be reading Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris at the same time. Expect a review of that book soon too.

Alright guys, this is it. Let’s marathon this series. Here we go!

Day 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 & 30 of the 30 Day Book Challenge

Day 25: Favorite book you read in school

My freshman year of high school, I read To Kill a Mockingbird (by Harper Lee) and I absolutely loved it. I read ahead. I was obsessed with court cases and law at that stage of my life (I wanted to be a lawyer). This story is also about so much more than law and the judicial system. It teaches us a lesson; don’t judge someone by what others say about them. Rumors can be a 180 of the truth a lot of the time.

Day 26: A book that changed your opinion on something

Second Chance Summer (by Morgan Matson) changed my opinion on giving the past a second chance. By that I mean that if we have a second chance to make things right, we should do it. I was a firm believer of never touching the past, but in order to forgive and move on, sometimes we have to revisit the past.

Day 27: The most surprising plot twist/or ending

The ending of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green left me shocked and a mess. I never saw it coming. At all.

Day 28: Favorite Title

‘Forever’ is an overused word in a lot of YA love relationships. Forever is something we have come to expect in a lot of YA novels when it comes to the resolved love relationship. The book title, The Truth About Forever (by Sarah Dessen), brings to our attention that there is more to forever than we might think.

Day 29: A book everyone hated but you liked

Let It Snow by John Green/Maureen Johnson/Lauren Myracle

My love for this book is deep. Why? I don’t think I even understand. Actually, I do. I love that we have three authors interpreting a town in three different ways and characters are all seen differently yet somehow it all flows together and we end up with one cohesive book. I love it!

Day 30: Favorite Book

The book of Ruth from the Bible. The story in the book of Ruth is about redemption that transcends nationalities and unites everyone in God. It also has a love story. I always imagine how Boaz looked and just add thoughts of what he might have thought when he first saw Ruth. I would also love Noemi to be my mother in law. Such a sweet lady.

This concludes the 30 Day Book Challenge. Guys, its been fun! I really loved doing this (even though I know that I wasn’t exactly very consistent). I’ll try to do a different challenge soon or participate in a new feature soon!

Happy Reading!
